Online cloud dubbing:

How home recording stormed the dubbing industry

The audiovisual industry has undergone a transformative shift with the rise of home recording and cloud dubbing, challenging traditional dubbing norms. This transformation is fuelled by technological advancements that make recording accessible and affordable worldwide. Moreover, this transition was further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. This article examines the impact of online audiovisual translation and voice localization agencies and provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution of dubbing technology, from analogue to digital recording. It emphasises the irruption of online voice talents and the advantages of remote recording and cloud-based dubbing software, which facilitate collaboration regardless of location. In addition, this article showcases effective translations in audiovisual productions achieved through these cutting-edge technologies.

Alfonso Carlos Rodríguez Fernández-Peña, Universidad de Oviedo

Alfonso Carlos Rodríguez Fernández-Peña es doctor en traducción por la Universidad de Oviedo. Ha trabajado como profesor de inglés específico en la Universidad Europea de Madrid y en la Universidad de Oviedo, donde ahora trabaja como profesor asociado dando clases de traducción audiovisual, traducción específica y localización entre otras cosas. Además, desde 2007, trabaja como traductor y locutor profesional. Ha traducido para doblaje la película Pottersville (2017), la series documentales Contraindicado (UnWell) (2020) y En las cárceles más peligrosas del mundo (2020). También ha traducido audio guías para las visitas a los estadios de Anfield (Liverpool FC) y el Etihad Stadium (Manchester City FC). Ha dado voz a numerosos personajes en programas como: Superconectados, Trump (an American Dream), Derren Brown The Push, Story of Diana, Royal House of Windsor; reality shows como BattleFish, Lock Up, The Big Family Cooking Show, Zumbo Just Desserts, Skin Decision: Before and After.
