European Documentation Centres. Evolution and review of success stories in digital ecosystems
60 years of history
Abstract
This year, 2023, marks the 60th anniversary of the creation of the network of European Documentation Centres, an information network created in 1963 by the European Commission in universities. Currently, it has more than 300 EDC in the EU, 29 of them in Spain. The network of European Documentation Centres has been taking shape over these decades as a key element of information and training in European affairs, especially in the university field, also developing research support tasks. The transition from an analogue environment to the digital ecosystem seems to have strengthened the network and its role as a reference point for the EU in the universities, as can be seen from the good information practices that are compiled here. The new challenges in the fight against misinformation, open access and digital transformation mean new opportunities for the Centres, and for the network itself.
