The impact of a writing programme on reading acquisition of at-risk first grade children

Résumé

Notre objectif était d'évaluer l'impact d'un programme d'écriture sur l'apprentissage de la lecture des enfants de première année considérés à risque de développer des difficultés de lecture. Dix-huit enfants de six classes de trois écoles primaires ont participé au programme. Leurs résultats aux tests de littératie à la fin du premier trimestre étaient très faibles par rapport aux 91 autres enfants dans les mêmes classes. Ce programme, avec une approche socio-constructiviste, a eu 12 sessions. Dans chaque session, les enfants ont discuté de l'écriture de mots et de phrases. Le rôle de l'adulte était de guider et d'interroger les enfants tout au long de leur processus de découverte et de réflexion. La dynamique qui s'est produite durant les séances et l'assistance de l'adulte (échafaudage) ont été analysées. À la fin du programme, les enfants qui ont participé au programme ont obtenu des résultats de lecture semblables à ceux des autres enfants des mêmes classes.
