La preparación inicial en didáctica para la enseñanza del inglés en la escuela primaria

This study was carried out with the aim of analyzing the way in which students of a Spanish university degree are prepared in the didactic component for the teaching of English in primary education. Ethnographic research and grounded theory were used and data were collected through class observations, interviews and document analysis of an undergraduate degree program for the training of primary teachers specializing in foreign languages. The results indicated that the training includes theoretical and practical knowledge through systematic procedures of an inductive and deductive nature oriented to the understanding and practice of theoretical knowledge and several practical experiences, among which a micro-teaching approach was used to support reflection and critical thinking processes.

Author Biography

Jesús Alirio Bastidas Arteaga, Universidad de Nariño

Jesús Alirio Bastidas Arteaga holds two Master degrees, in Linguistics and Methodology and in Language, Learning and Literacy, from Ohio University (USA) and a PhD. From the University of Southern California (USA). He has been awarded the Fulbright Fellowship and Fulbright LASPAU. He has undertaken postgraduate Studies in ELT at Thames Valley University, London (UK), as a British Council Fellow, and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, (Spain) as an Erasmus Mundus scholarship holder. His research areas are language acquisition (L1, L2 and FL), Professional Teacher Development in Language and Literacy Processes. He is director of the Research Group GICIL. His recent publications are the books titled "Si hoy me leen un cuento mañana mi mundo será diferente" (2010) and "Fundamentos para el Desarrollo Profesional de los Profesores de Inglés" (2011) as a result of recent research. He is editor of the journal Hechos y Proyecciones del Lenguaje and is a Professor and Researcher at the University of Nariño, Pasto, (Colombia). He acts as coordinator of the National Accreditation Council in charge of evaluating undergraduate and graduate programmes for the Colombian Ministry of National Education.
