Abstract

As the world of technology increasingly intersects with humanity, one name stands out as a guide in this complex and ever-changing territory: James Hughes. In this interview, we had the opportunity not only to learn more about the author’s thinking and expertise, but also to explore the perspectives he brings on the technological future.

Author Biographies

Murilo Vilaça, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz

Researcher at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Ph.D in Philosophy (UFRJ/Brazil). Head of the Philosophical Research Group on Transhumanism and Human Bioenhancement – GIFT-H+ (Fiocruz/CNPq). His research interests are new technologies/convergent technologies, human enhancement and transhumanism. He has conducted interviews with leading researchers: Anders Sandberg, Allen Buchanan, John Danaher, James Hughes, Luciano Floridi, and Nicholas Agar. He has published in journals and events. In partnerships, he has also held and is organizing some events: CONFERENCES GIFT-H+; Symposium on Human Enhancement; 1st International Symposium on Applied Philosophy (ISoAP): Allen Buchanan’s Lectures; International Seminar on Human Genomic Enhancement and Public Health: A Collectivist Public Health Framework, Tess Johnson’s Lectures; Panel “Theories of Justice Applied to Human Enhancement” – MANCEPT Workshops 2023 (Sept. 11-13, 2023); Panel on Brain-Machine Interface: Lectures by Andrea Lavazza, James Hughes and Veljko Dubljevic (Oct. 27, 2023); and 2nd ISoAP: John Danaher’s Lectures (Nov. 7-10, 2023).
