In search of the possible antigraph of the old Spanish version of "The Decameron": the edition of the «Introduzione alla Giornata I»

Abstract

In order to locate the antigraph used by the translator of the old Spanish version of The Decameron, a group of Italian codices that would form an individualized branch of the manuscript tradition needs to be considered. Their exceptional editorial system consists of the insertion of apocryphal summaries dividing the «Introduzione alla Giornata I» above the points where Boccaccio, in his autograph, introduced only capitals. Their location and their writing system in the codices and in the old Spanish version are so similar that they must not be a coincidence. It might be a new way of studying the codex and the print edition.
