“The pursuit of pleasurable work” és un volum etnogràfic compost per deu capítols (alguns reeditats) entorn del que l'autor anomena antropologia de l'artesania. En particular, s'aborda l'esdevenir i el currículum formatiu actual de la fusteria fina a una de les escoles més prestigioses i antigues de Londres, Building Crafts College. El llibre cobreix un ampli nombre de temes relacionats amb la destresa, el coneixement tàcit, la dualitat treball mecànic/treball manual, així com les utopies i aspiracions del treball vocacional i artesanal.
