The Adanero – Castro Serna Collection in Madrid: From the Restoration to the Spanish Civil War

Abstract

Detailed analysis of the collection founded by Gonzalo de Ulloa, 9th Count of Adanero and inherited by his brother José María, 8th Marquis of Castro Serna, and of other documentary sources, enables a close study of the contents of the collection and its main works. The article also studies the subsequent dispersal of the collection among Castro Serna’s heirs, an issue that has aroused great interest among specialists and experts in the art market in recent years. An inventory of the collection is listed in an appendix.
