Abstract

This article presents a series of relevant terminological issues related to the teaching of Catalan grammar. Specifically, the first section investigates the transitive / intransitive dichotomy and examines the implications of the definitions of these terms in understanding the workings of grammar. In the second section, the dichotomy between argument and attachment is explored. In more detail, the case of company and place complements is analyzed, to distinguish those that are arguments (otherwise called regime complements) and those that are adjuncts (term comparable to circumstantial complement). Each of the sections includes a proposal of exercises to work on in the classroom with the aim of achieving a higher level of comprehension and promoting grammatical reflection in students.
