Italian language and feminine
Abstract
This paper examines some recent discussions on linguistic sexism, with special reference to Italian. It touches on some general theoretical and ideological points (including the question of «political correctness»), as well as specific examples concerning Italian grammar and vocabulary: in particular the designations of female professional activities, and the use of the suffix «-essa» in the words «dottoressa», «professoressa», «studentessa».Keywords
