Marginal authors and eccentric subjectivities in the spaces of South American science fiction written by women
Abstract
Science fiction written by Latin American women has remained at the edges of the literary field because of its status as a triple marginality, due to the appreciation of science fiction as a minor genre compared to those canonical promoted from the literary institutions, the invisibility of women's writing in literary media, and due to the position of Latin America as a "Third World" in relation to the hegemonic discourse. These displacements are materialized in the narratives of many women writers, in which liminal spaces are constructed —alleys, garbage dumps, barbed wire, deserts— where the subjects are crossed by the border (Anzaldúa, 1987). Eccentric subjectivities (De Lauretis, 2000) and posthuman bodies (Haraway, 1995; Braidotti, 2015) subvert the spaces delimited by the system in these science fiction stories of the last decade.
