Nietzsche and the queer theories: About critic as philosophy of the future

Abstract

This text schematically sets out the main connections and influences between the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche, on the one hand, and the positions held by queer theories, on the other. Taking into account that the Nietzschean influence on these theories is rarely made explicit, and that to a large extent Nietzsche’s philosophy comes to them via poststructuralist thinkers, the text tries to find common points, taking as a starting point the critical character of both proposals. From the critical assumptions of the metaphysics of substance, to immoralism and the pathologization of the criminal, the article covers, without aiming to be systematic, certain questions that allow us to consider Nietzsche’s thought as an essential antecedent of queer theories.

Oscar Quejido Alonso, Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Oscar Quejido Alonso is a professor in the Department of Philosophy and Society at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Complutense University of Madrid. He has been the Director of the “Seminario Nietzsche Complutense” (SNC) since its creation and co-director of the Complutense Research Group, “Cuerpo, lenguaje y poder: lecturas contemporáneas de Nietzsche” (CLEPO). He is also coordinator of the “Red iberoamericana de Estudios Nietzscheanos” (RIEN).
