Historia y trayectoria de las obras de Rossetti «después de Dante»: entre colecciones privadas y museos
Resumen
Aunque la obra de Rossetti inspirada en Dante dejó su impronta en el Prerrafaelismo, no nos detendremos aquí en las obras en sí, sino en su trayectoria como piezas en colecciones (privadas o públicas). Rara vez han salido de las colecciones británicas o norteamericanas, aunque cabría esperar verlas hoy en los principales museos del mundo. ¿Las razones? La popularidad de los temas de Dante en la Gran Bretaña de la época, por supuesto, pero también una nueva forma de coleccionismo restringida a unos pocos rivales, que se aprovecharon de los museos aún cautelosos con el Prerrafaelismo y de los críticos que reconocieron tardíamente a Rossetti en el continente, en un momento en que sus obras transitaban ya por un circuito anglosajón del que nunca saldrían. En este sentido, la cartografía actual de esta colección refleja tanto el imaginario victoriano como los cambios del mercado del arte en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.
