Història i trajectòria de les obres de Rossetti «segons Dante»: entre col·leccions privades i museus

Resum

Si el treball de Rossetti inspirat en Dante ha marcat el Prerafaelisme, no ens centrarem aquí en les obres mateixes sinó en el seu recorregut com a peces de col·leccions (privades o públiques). Es constata llavors que han sortit poc de les col·leccions britàniques o d'Amèrica del Nord, encara que es podria esperar veure-les avui en els grans museus del món. Els motius? La popularitat dels temes dantescs a la Gran Bretanya en aquesta època, per descomptat, però també una nova forma de col·leccionisme restringida a alguns rivals, que van aprofitar museus encara frilosos davant el Prerafaelisme i d'una crítica que va reconèixer tardanament Rossetti al continent, en el moment en què les seves obres transitaven ja en un circuit anglosaxó del qual ja no sortiran. La cartografia actual d'aquest conjunt, en aquest sentit, reflecteix tant l'imaginari victorià com les mutacions del mercat de l'art a la segona meitat del segle XIX.
