Scars that burn
Former combatants and origins of feixisme in France (1918-1928)
Abstract
Considering sources from the Archives Nationales de Paris, this text addresses, starting from the Faisceau case, the relationship between the emergence of French fascism and the war veterans as a political subject from three axes. Firstly, that the fascist project is part of a counter-revolutionary space that, since the victory of the Cartel, tried to politically organize the veterans. Secondly, the support of the war veterans in the construction of the fascist party. Finally, to which extent former soldiers as part of the militancy influended the decision-making of the party. These three aspects lead to revisit the "brutalization" thesis as an explanatory interpretation of the rise to fascism.
