Resum

Aquest article examina l'estratègia internacional de Taiwan en un entorn geopolític en ràpida evolució, que cada cop és més incert i complex. Els governs taiwanesos han buscat un delicat equilibri entre les aspiracions de Taiwan de fer-se un lloc a la comunitat internacional per tal de salvaguardar el seu autogovern i la seva seguretat, i la necessitat de mantenir unes relacions estables amb la Xina que permetin preservar el delicat statu quo a través de l'Estret. La creixent influència econòmica i política de la Xina planteja un desafiament a aquesta estratègia, limitant la capacitat de Taiwan per establir i mantenir relacions diplomàtiques i participar en els assumptes internacionals. El poble taiwanès, la identitat del qual està cada cop més desvinculada de la Xina, s'oposa majoritàriament a la perspectiva de la unificació. Tot i això, l'amenaça latent d'unificació per la força fa que l'statu quo sigui vist com l'opció més prudent i preferida pels taiwanesos. La determinació de Taiwan per defensar els seus interessos i el compromís dels seus aliats, especialment dels Estats Units, seran fonamentals per garantir-ne la seguretat i l'estabilitat a l'Estret.
