Validation of the Social and Personal Identity Scale (SIPI) in Chile.

Social Network Analysis (SNA) as a complementary method of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).

Authors

Abstract

This article comparatively evaluates the validity of the Social Identities and Personal Identity Scale -SIPI- in the Chilean context and applied in a virtual format using two different methods of analysis. The scale was applied to a sample of 6,64 Chilean university students and validity studies were carried out using the confirmatory analysis technique and the social network analysis technique. The results show that in situations where traditional validity analyses of questionnaire items, as in the case of the objective of the study, show ambiguous results, the ARS provides a complementary result, allowing more accurate conclusions about the evaluation of the scale. While both are based on similar analytical logics, the measurements provided by the ARS also allow for the study of goodness of fit. Finally, the results of these analyses confirm the SIPI as a valid scale for the measurement of personal and social identity in Chile and in online format.
