Abstract

This text reproduces the jubilee lecture by Ramón Valdés del Toro, read in the auditorium of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the Autonomous University of Barcelona on June 2, 2000. Based on a rich selection of cases and ethnographic examples, the text analyzes different definitions of religion and leaves us, as a legacy, a refined definition of religion that confronts us with the question: do we know what it is to believe?
