Eros and Civilization at the End of the World. Rafael Pinedo’s Post-Apocalyptic Trilogy: Plop, Frío and Subte
Abstract
Pinedo's trilogy presents us with different post-apocalyptic scenarios in which, nevertheless, some form of civilization persists. Civilization is represented in a predominantly negative way: as repression (mainly of sexual instincts); as a source of duties and guilt that burden the subjects and make them unhappy; as an ideological device that, on the one hand, produces obedient subjects and, on the other, an enemy considered "barbaric" or "indecent". Faced with "civilization and its discontents", the characters of each novel assume different ways out: transgression, escape into madness and total assumption of the law.
