Graphic design and conceptual art in the work of David Horvitz

Authors

Abstract

This article interrogates the dynamic relationship between graphic design and conceptual art the work of Californian artist David Horvitz (1982), whom we have interviewed by email. Presented in various formats –as shared online projects, publications or artist books, objects, and typographic posters–, many contemporary trends crystallize in his oeuvre, such as the digitization of conceptual art, the exploration of semiotic elements or the promotion of the viewer’s participation in the work of art. Here the artist exposes relevant ideas on role of graphic design in contemporary conceptual creation and the convenience of working with designers to conceive text-based art pieces.
