Presentation. The dialogue with Heidegger in Marcuse’s first philosophical project
Abstract
The purpose of the following paper is to discuss some basic aspects regarding Marcuse’s relationship with Heidegger that may serve as a general framework for this monographic issue. First, I will detail which of Heidegger’s writings, courses and lecture-transcripts Marcuse came to know during his time as his student from 1929 to 1932. I will then highlight some characteristic elements from Marcuse’s interpretative perspective. Finally, I will develop some reflections regarding the way in which Heidegger could take and, in fact, did take this original interpretation of his thought. These last remarks will also explain the fruitful potential that, in my opinion, a reading of Heidegger’s philosophy through the prism of the so called Critical Theory can have. Keywords
