Marie Spartali Stillman: les dones esdevenen protagonistes de la iconografia dantiana
Resum
L'assaig proposa una anàlisi de les obres pictòriques de Marie Spartali Stillman inspirades en Dante. Els quadres de l'artista anglès d'origen grec, realitzats en el període comprès entre 1880 i 1914, a més de testimoniar la influència de la idea prerafaelita de Dante, entren en el cànon d'una iconografia que fins aquell moment -exceptuant les il·lustracions de la comèdia de Sophie Giacomelli- és predominantment masculí. Formada en l'ambient dels Prerafaelites, com demostren els quadres de tema dantià, per a l'Espartal la pràctica artística és també una manera de trobar un estil propi, emancipar-se dels “pares” i trobar un espai com a artista i com a dona a l'Anglaterra victoriana.
