Teen Wolf. Lycanthropy and adolescence. Themes and characters

Abstract

This article provides a structural analysis of the characters and the array of themes and images of the lycanthropic tale that inspired the TV series Teen Wolf (MTV, 2011). With structural studies and numerous movies on the werewolf figure in the background, the author seeks to interpret the influence of the werewolf imaginary on teen drama by comparing the typical dynamics of adolescence with themes particular to lycanthropic tales.

Author Biography

Mauro Fradegradi

Doctor en Lenguas y Literaturas Europeas y Extraeuropeas por la Università degli Studi di Milano con tesis La narrativa western dall’America all’Europa. L’esperienza spagnola, trabajando sobre obras de Sender, Cela y Mallorquí. Anteriormente licenciado en Lenguas y Literaturas Extranjeras por la Università degli Studi di Firenze con tesis Bandito del Sertão. Il cangaçeiro tra Storia e Mito in «Grande Sertão: Veredas» di João Guimarães Rosa.

Actualmente profesor de lengua y cultura española en secundaria, sigue con sus estudios de corte crítico temático en literatura española, especialmente sobre Ramón José Sender, Valle-Inclán, García Lorca, Camilo Josè Cela, el cuento fantástico y de terror, la novela del Oeste, la novela social y la neorrural; y en crítica cinematográfica, casi exclusivamente sobre el cine del Oeste y el de terror, loswilderness drama, teorias de la actuación y estudios del actor.

Sus estudios tienen un enfoque crítico temático y a la vez comparatistico, con especial interés en temas como la naturaleza salvaje, la referencia animal, las máscaras del terror, el hombre lobo, los bandidos, el viaje, el doble, la adolescencia, cainismos y omoerotismos, desnudez y sexualidad.

En 2016 se publíca «El lugar de un forajido: El bandido adolescente de Ramón José Sender» en Alazet, revista de filología del Instituto de Estudios Altoaragoneses (Universidad de Huesca).
