World Market of Labor Competences

An approach from the Theory of Networks

Authors

Abstract

Labor skills have become more relevant in recent decades where modern organizations under the paradigm of the knowledge economy have increased the demand for personnel with skills that guarantee them significant levels of differentiation and competitiveness. This work aimed to analyze the most requested labor skills worldwide through Social Network Analysis (SNA), to identify both the regions with the highest degree of co-occurrences and the countries with the highest concentration of skills to determine if they are within the high-income group. It also presents a network of co-occurrences between countries that allows assessing regional synergies and the possibilities of diversifying labor skills in the case of Mexico. The findings indicate that Europe is the high-income region with the highest degree of regional co-occurrences with North America and Asia Pacific, while the Latin America and the Caribbean region is disconnected from the network. Countries from the high-income group and Europe are detected within the top ten with a higher concentration of labor skills, except for Singapore, belonging to the Asia Pacific region, with whom Mexico presents a regional synergy.
