Kassandros and Epeiros
Abstract
This paper examines the shape and effectiveness of Kassandros’ policy towards and in Epeiros after he gained power in Macedonia. It considers the difficult family history between the Antipatrids and the Aiakids Kassandros inherited, and how this and broader strategic considerations shaped his approach to securing Macedonia’s western frontiers. It examines the limited evidence for the nature of Macedonian administration in Epeiros during the period of direct control between 317 and 312, and how this changed in subsequent years. Finally, it considers the broader implications for Kassandros’ reign and Epeiros’ history of Kassandros’ Epeirote policies and actions.
