The Guinean lexicon: the American, the peninsular and a contrastive analisys

Abstract

The history of the colonization of Equatorial Guinea, as well as the circumstances of its independence, have favored various sociolinguistic climates that make this country a complex linguistic area, aligned with different and diverse factors when it comes to its classification and study. In the present work we offer a broad vision of the lexical relationships that Equatorial Guinea has with the rest of the Spanish-speaking territories, America and Spain. But it is also about offering a detailed view of the use of the Guinean lexicon through a comparative analysis with the peninsular lexicon. In order to do that, we will use some samples of the word bidón from the CORPES and the database of Varilex-R. After these descriptions, we will see that Guinean Spanish uses fewer specifiers for the given word and we can conclude that it is deeply linked to its sister varieties, but that it also makes its own rules thanks to its nearby material reality.
