Animal mistreatment: current situation and perceptions in veterinary clinics
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyse the state, training and organization in the face of animal mistreatment, through a bibliographic review and a questionnaire for professionals of veterinary clinics. As a conclusion, few clinics were found to rely on the knowledge and protocols necessary for detection and action. Therefore, this issue requires further study and attention. It is necessary to improve the training of veterinarians to detect and deal with situations of animal mistreatment, as well as to have updated protocols for action in cases of animal mistreatment or abuse. It is also necessary to have an adequate legal framework to protect the veterinary professional when reporting cases of animal or family mistreatment or abuse.
