Characterizing an earthquake in Phys ics c lassroom Abstract
Abstract
In this article we present an upper-secondary school Physics activity that aims to students apply what has been learned about waves in the context of the earthquake that shook Turkey in February 2023. Based on an animation of the recorded movement of the ground in seismic stations distributed throughout Europe, and the velocity-time graph of a specific seismic station, students have to characterize the wave equation of the earthquake. This activity is proposed to students in an open and autonomous manner, but with constant dialogue with the teacher.
