La Beatrice preraffaellita di Dante Gabriel e Christina Rossetti. Una lettura femminista
Abstract
Attraverso la prospettiva della critica femminista che individua l’immagine della “Donna” come segno della creatività maschile nell’arte, la prima parte del saggio si concentra sull’impiego della figura di Beatrice nell’opera poetica e pittorica di Dante Gabriel Rossetti, traduttore della Vita nuova, il quale ne fa un’icona muta, secolarizzata e sensuale. La seconda parte del saggio esamina alcuni esempi della produzione poetica di Elizabeth Siddal e di Christina Rossetti che si confrontano, da un’inedita prospettiva protofemminista, con la figura della donna amata quale musa ispiratrice del genio artistico maschile. Nella trama intertestuale di Monna Innominata (1881), Christina Rossetti fa parlare con una voce poetica la donna oggetto d’amore della tradizione maschile, facendola divenire soggetto della lirica amorosa. La visione cristiana che ispira la sua lirica permette alla poetessa di essere più fedele allo spirito dantesco di quanto non lo sia il fratello Dante Gabriel con la sua estetizzante Beatrice preraffaellita.
