Lo animal es político: en defensa de un acceso pleno a la salud para los animales de compañía
Resumen
Moldeada por el pensamiento de numerosas personalidades y en permanente expansión, el ámbito de la ética animal ha logrado desdibujar y redefinir los límites de la comunidad moral, integrando a los animales no humanos. Ahora bien, por más que se esté presenciando cómo el antropocentrismo moral va entrando en la categoría de esquema mental propio de una época pasada, lamentablemente continúa siendo el encargado de trazar el horizonte político de los animales. El reto, por tanto, consiste en prestar atención desde el mundo político y jurídico a la creciente sensibilidad pública hacia los animales. Así, lo aquí expuesto constituye una sencilla apuesta por ofrecer un escenario político más favorable para ellos. Partiendo de la teoría de los derechos de los animales de Sue Donaldson y Will Kymlicka, aspirar a una verdadera comunidad política interespecies exige identificar qué tipo de actuaciones van acercándose a esa situación proyectada. En consecuencia, la mejora en el acceso a la salud de aquellos animales considerados de compañía por la legislación vigente se propone como un avance en esa dirección.
